Principal Geotechnical Engineer at PSM, Derek Anderson has over 30 years’ experience in the design and safety assessment of water, construction and monitoring of works for embankment dams. He has worked across a wide range of geotechnical and civil engineering projects in Australia, New Zealand, Africa and Southeast Asia.
Derek has been involved with projects covering areas such as the design and construction of water, tailings and sediment dam embankments, river and creek diversions. Derek also has experience in the role of dam safety review for tailings and water dams and the role of Engineer of Record.
He also has expertise in the design of capping earthworks and remediation of soft tailings deposits particularly as part of mine closure works, and the design and construction of geosynthetic lined and covered hazardous waste and fluid storage facilities.
Derek has also worked extensively in major civil and tunnelling projects. Prominent projects include lead design for driven tunnels for the WestConnex road and Northwest Rail Link, including close liaison with the client during the construction phase. He was also involved in the Chatswood to Epping rail tunnels and the Eastern Distributor project in Sydney.
Derek has a particular interest in working on a diverse range of projects and technical problems from design development to implementation in the field and works completion.
