Engineers Australia awards PSM the Bradfield and Sydney Region Awards at the biennial Australian Engineering Excellence Awards.
PSM is proud to receive these awards along with Taylor Thomson Whitting (TTW) and CPB Contractors for their collaborative design work, integrating the geotechnical and structural disciplines. The designs addressed the challenging and constrained conditions beneath the Sydney CBD on the Wynyard Walk project. The project combined aspects of PSM’s underground structure design with TTW’s aboveground structure design intelligence.
These are the third and fourth awards received for the work by PSM and TTW on the Wynyard Walk project, following the 2017 Highly Commended (runner up) award from Consult Australia for Design Innovation (in ground-structure interaction), and the 2017 Excellence in Concrete (winner) award in the Infrastructure category from the Concrete Institute of Australia (including the PSM tunnel design).
The Bradfield award is named after John Bradfield, the celebrated engineer and University of Sydney alumnus, behind two of Sydney’s most acclaimed projects: the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the city’s underground railway system. One of the many challenges of the Wynyard Walk project was excavating beneath and underpinning the Railway House heritage building designed by Bradfield in the 1930s.
Congratulations to all who contributed to the project.
